Stuck behind Sauron on the Freeway

During the time spent waiting in traffic in Los Angeles in a year, you could read War and Peace with time left over to start another tome, watch The Ring Cycle nearly five times over, or, and don’t ask me why you would do this unless you are the most giant nerd on the planet (and I’m not disparaging giant nerds – it’s just something I think few people could take), watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy eight times over.

Now, I like the Lord of the Rings trilogy – at least more than sitting in traffic – and I’m willing to bet a pretty good chunk of Angelino motorists feel the same way, so why does watching it through eight times in a year seem utterly appalling, while sitting in traffic for the same amount of time is somehow tolerable?
